[aname="1"]Q: Is there really a ThunderCats movie in development...or am I just a gullible person?[/aname]

A: Yes, there is a ThunderCats movie in production. The project was announced by Warner Bros. in June 2007. The project was pitched to Warner Bros. by Palek Patel, Vice President of Spring Creeks Productions.

[aname="2"]Q: So, does that mean we are definitely going to get a movie?[/aname]

A: No. While the movie was announced and a script has been optioned, the project is still in its early development phase and has not yet been green-lit.

[aname="3"]Q: Who is producing the movie?[/aname]

A: Warner Bros. has optioned a script to be written by Paul Sopocy and is going to be produced through Paula Weinstein's studio, Spring Creeks Productions. Dick Robertson and Lew Korman are also involved with the project in some capacity.

[aname="4"]Q: Has a director been announced for the project?[/aname]

A: Yes. In October 2007, Jerry O'Flaherty was confirmed as the director for the upcoming movie. Jerry formerly served as the art director to the critically-acclaimed XBOX 360 video game, Gears of War as well as other popular games such as Command & Conquer and Unreal Tournament.

[aname="5"]Q: Will the movie be live-action or CGI?[/aname]

A: Despite some confusion around the web, the movie was confirmed to be CGI when it was first announced back in June 2007. During the 2008 Game Developers Conference, Jerry discussed the possibilities of merging video game technology into a feature-length CGI film. Based on the numerous articles on the web, the technology being proposed for the movie is called Machinima.

    [aname="6"] Q: What is Machinima?[/aname]

A: To avoid the technical jargon, Machinima is a "new" cost-effective animation method that is being used for both video games and animated films. The best example of Machinima in action is the Gears of War ad, Mad World. Digital Domain will be responsible for the technology being used in the movie.

[aname="7"]Q: Is there an official release date?[/aname]

A: Currently, there has been no official release date announced for the film. The year 2010 has floated around the net for quite some time, though it has not been confirmed by Warner Bros when the film is expected to be released in theatres.

[aname="8"] Q: Will there be a toyline to coincide with the film?[/aname]

A: There has been no announcement on a toyline. However, based on previous 80s properties that have had success in recent years (Transformers) transitioning to the big screen, the bigger question is which toy company will Warner Bros. give the license to.

[aname="9"]Q: Will the movie have the same premise (plot) as the cult 80s animated series?[/aname]

A: The general premise will likely stay the same. However, if the Transformers movie is any indication, there definitely will be changes to the story. In a recent interview with the 360 StyleCast (podcast), Jerry stated that the movie will be:

[aname="10"] Q: Are all the main characters going to be in the movie?[/aname]

A: Nothing has been officially confirmed. We can assume that most, if not all the main characters will appear in the movie, in one form or another.

[aname="11"] Q: We want the original voice cast![/aname]

A: Not really a question, but okay. :) It is very possible that fan-favorites such as Larry Kenney will be involved in the project, but we do not know in what capacity. ThunderCats Lair is currently running a petition to get Larry to voice Lion-O. If you're interested in signing the petition, click here.

As of July 2014 there is no news of a ThunderCats movie in the works. After the cancellation of the Warner Brothers TV show and the decline in toy and statue merchandising it is unlikely that a movie will be produced anytime soon.

Here is test footage that was leaked of the movie project that was shelved:
