The Cancelled Project

Between 2007 and 2010 Warner Bros. and Spring Creek Productions were developing a fully CGI-animated ThunderCats feature film. Paul Sopocy wrote the screenplay. Jerry O’Flaherty signed on to direct. Aurelio Jaro produced. The film was targeted for summer 2010. It was never greenlit, the script went unfilmed, and the project quietly died as the 2011 Cartoon Network reboot took the property in a different direction. The full Sopocy script, the Charlie Wen Lion-O concept art, and the leaked CGI test footage are preserved on the 2007 Movie page.

The pieces here are different. They are production-design work by Dave Bullock. None were ever publicly released by Warner Bros. or the production. The set survived because a single contributor kept copies and donated them. Compared to the Wen designs that Movieline ran in 2009, Bullock’s character work sits closer to the cartoon’s proportions. The faces read more clearly as the show’s heroes. The costumes carry the harder-edged, more grounded vocabulary the film was developing.

Credit and authorship are Dave Bullock’s throughout. This page mirrors the originals on R2 so they remain reachable if the upstream copy ever disappears.
