Watch the interview

The full forty minute interview. English and Spanish, subtitled throughout. His own reels are cut into the conversation at the moments he talks about them.

You have probably already seen his work, even if you did not catch the name. A robot Berbil crawling through the mud looks up, asks who you are, and the camera cuts to Lion-O. The Lunataks massing in a burning Cats Lair. A private walkthrough of a control deck you could believe somebody built. Those are the videos of Only My Toys, a collector in Mexico City who has become one of the most watched people making ThunderCats with generative tools.

A collector first

The thing that makes his ThunderCats work look the way it does is that he is not trying to reimagine the show. He is a toy collector, and he films the shelf. Chilla in close-up, the mutants massed at the gate, the Sword of Omens catching the light. He posts constantly, almost always in Spanish, and he tells his audience exactly which tools he used so they can go and do it themselves. Because he works the neighbouring Rankin/Bass shelf too, SilverHawks turns up nearly as often as Third Earth.

The method

He is candid that none of this is one prompt and a click. It is stills first, decided in an image model before anything moves, then a painstaking pass to keep a character the same person from shot to shot, then motion, then sound. He builds his own arrangement of the 1985 theme rather than lifting the original, and he is the first to point at the rough edges. In the interview he walks through the whole pipeline, and the moment he realised a video of his had been mistaken for the real movie.
