Notes of Interest
Mumm-Ra is one of only two figures in the whole LJN ThunderCats line with light up eyes. Lion-O is the other. Everything else in the range is a straight Battle-matic figure, which is what makes a working Mumm-Ra worth holding out for.
Like Lion-O, he was released in every series, sometimes twice over. Beyond the accessory colours, the real differences between releases are the addition of Ma-Mutt in the second series and the non Battle-matic Mumm-Ra packed with the Luna Lasher.
Battle-matic Action
Using your forefinger, push down the battle-matic action lever on the back to move both of Mumm-Ra’s arms up and down.
The Power Ring
With the secret power ring on your finger, insert the point into the opening on Mumm-Ra’s back. This makes his eyes light up with power.
The ring takes one AAA battery. Some Series 1 figures shipped with a free Energizer cell included.
Accessories
Sword, Dagger, Headdress and Power Ring.
Variations
There are three variations of the Mumm-Ra figure: the darker coloured accessories, the lighter coloured accessories, and the solid Mumm-Ra packaged with the Luna Lasher. The colour difference runs across the headdress, skirt and sword handle.
The dagger varies too. Our guide has long recorded two, a silver blade and a black blade. Some collector references report a third with a grey blade, so it is worth a close look if you are chasing a complete set.
The Series 2 release added a PVC Ma-Mutt. Note that the packaging calls him Ravage, which is not his name in the series; the figure is Ma-Mutt.
Collector Tips
Make sure the figure’s mechanisms, both the arm action and the light up eyes, are in working condition. The eyes are the weak point and tend to break down.
The Power Ring can also stop working if the battery terminals corrode, so check those before assuming the fault is in the figure.
