Grune the Destroyer Gets the Full Treatment, and Both Super7 Versions Are Under $39
Grune’s encyclopedia entry went live today, rebuilt from the ground up. Sixteen stills pulled fresh from The Ghost Warrior, the full episode story, every Grune figure ever made, and the two that are actually in stock right now.
Both of those are discounted at BigBadToyStore as I write this, and one of them is a better deal than it first looks.
The only one who was ever one of them
Grune is the odd villain out. The Mutants come from Plun-Darr. Mumm-Ra was already in his pyramid when the ThunderCats landed. The Lunataks were buried under a mountain. All of them are outsiders.
Grune was a ThunderCat. A general of the Thunderian army, Jaga’s friend, fighting beside him to defend Thundera, until a lust for power hollowed him out from the inside. Panthro puts it plainest when they work out what they are facing: a ThunderCat gone bad.
That is the image the episode gives you before it asks you to watch Jaga destroy him. In Cheetara’s vision of Thundera, Grune is still wearing the insignia on his chest.
The Ghost Warrior holds up
Two Bolkins loot a tomb they should have left alone. Grune drains Cats Lair of its Thundrillium, levels a Wollo village, and hammers himself a club out of a Thundrainium fire rock, the one substance that can put a ThunderCat down.
Then Jaga comes for him, and the two of them fight as giants in the sky above the Lair. It is one of the only times in the whole series that the other ThunderCats see Jaga in spirit form at all. Weakened by the Thundrainium, Jaga starts losing, and Lion-O throws his own strength into him along with the Sword of Omens.
It is also where Cheetara’s sixth sense debuts. The self-induced trance, the version that visibly costs her something, only ever comes back once more, in ThunderCats Ho! Part One.
The whole episode, with the review and the notes, is in the episode guide.
Two Grunes, both on sale
Super7 has made him twice at 7 inch scale. Same sculpt, different deco. One matches the cartoon, one copies the vintage LJN toy. Both carry a $55 MSRP and both are discounted right now.
Cartoon colours against the vintage toy deco

What is actually in the box
| Cartoon colours, $38.24 | Toy colours, $38.49 | |
|---|---|---|
| Deco | As seen in The Ghost Warrior | Vintage LJN card art |
| Club | Yes | Yes |
| Brass knuckles | Yes | Yes |
| Seal of Grune | Yes, plus a broken one | Not included |
| Broken Sword of Omens | Yes | Not included |
| Alternate armour | ThunderCats logo armour | Not included |
| Heads | 1 alternate | 2 interchangeable |
| Was | $44.99 | $54.99 |
The recolor gives you the deeper discount off its own list price, 30 percent against 15. But the cartoon figure is 25 cents cheaper at the till and comes with the Seal, the broken Seal, the broken Sword and the logo armour on top.
So it comes down to which Grune you actually want on the shelf. If it is the one from the episode, the Wave 2 figure is both the cheaper buy and the fuller box. If you grew up with the LJN figure and want silver and red off the old card, the recolor is a good figure, just a barer one.
There is a third, the translucent Ghost Grune from 2024, moulded to match his spirit form and packed with a Sword of Omens and a broken Seal. It is retired and BigBadToyStore does not stock it, so that one is aftermarket only.
Prices and stock checked 29 July 2026. Both are promotions, so neither will hold forever.
Every Grune ever made, from the LJN original to the Bandai 4 inch, is listed on the encyclopedia entry, and the wider run is on the ThunderCats ULTIMATES hub.
