The younger ThunderKitten
Accurately described as a cunning junior duo, the ThunderKittens are small in size and still maturing, yet still serve a vital role in the ThunderCat ranks. Inseparable despite their competitive natures, both WilyKat and WilyKit are impatient to grow up and take their place amongst the adult ThunderCats. Inquisitive and impetuous, the ThunderKittens have been known to stir up their fair share of problems for the others to deal with, but with their good consciences and brave spirits they can always be relied upon to do the right thing in the end.
WilyKit is the younger of the two and the sister. Jaga issued both twins their clothing and their weapons aboard the flagship, the same as he did for the adults, which settles the question of whether the ThunderKittens are really ThunderCats.
Pellets and lasso
She carries no blade. Her weapons are trick pellets worn on her belt and a lasso that stretches, and she fires the pellets from a slingshot as often as she throws them. Every pellet looks the same, which is the entire tactical idea: an enemy has no way of knowing what is about to happen.
They are named by what they do. Butter pellets melt underfoot and take an opponent’s legs away, which is how Monkian is dealt with in The Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr. Bubble pellets confuse, and are used on Mongor. Dinosaur pellets inflate into giant dinosaurs, deployed against Lion-O himself during the Trial of Cunning. Raft pellets become a boat.
Not a sidekick
The series gives her real work. In The Tower of Traps it is Kit, not one of the adults, who climbs the tower alongside Lion-O to reach her captured brother, after the pair chased down robbers who had stolen a Wollo’s gold bracelet.
The Trouble with ThunderKittens is the pair at their most characteristic. They borrow the adults’ weapons to practise with, lose the lot to the Mutants, keep quiet about it, and then raid Castle Plun-Darr themselves to get everything back, finding Monkian posing in a mirror with Panthro’s nunchucks. A tidal-wave pellet and a laughing-gas pellet settle it. Lion-O covers for them and never tells the others.
A note on the flute
If you remember WilyKit playing a flute, you are remembering the 2011 series. The flupe belongs to that continuity. The 1985 WilyKit throws pellets and rides a Space Board.
