The ThunderTank Just Rolled Into LEGO's Review Room: 10,000 Supporters and Counting
We asked, you voted, and Third Earth delivered. On June 20, the fan-built ThunderCats Ho! project by builder MOCturnal crossed 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. That is the magic number: the ThunderTank now goes in front of LEGO’s review board, which is formally required to consider it for production as a real set.
When we first covered this build in May, it was sitting at 7,597 supporters with 78 days on the clock. The fandom needed to find about 31 votes a day. You found them with a month to spare.
The final sprint
The push was a genuine community effort. The project had already been named a LEGO Ideas Staff Pick, and when the call to arms went up on r/Thundercats in early June the campaign was still thousands of votes short. Three weeks later, the builder’s celebration post (“WE DID IT, THUNDERIANS!”) became the biggest post on the subreddit that month. From staff pick to 10K in under a season: that is the fandom showing up.
The build, one more time
The project recreates the ThunderTank in 1,361 pieces (that number comes straight from the builder’s project description), with the details that matter: seating for six, sliding roof doors, hidden weapons under the claws and nose, and a manned super cannon up top. Alongside it are six minifigures, Lion-O, Panthro, Cheetara, Tygra, WilyKit and WilyKat, plus a molded Snarf. That would be the first official LEGO minifigure treatment the ThunderCats cast has ever had.
What happens next, honestly
Reaching 10,000 supporters is a qualification, not a green light. ThunderCats Ho! enters the second LEGO Ideas review of 2026 as one of 28 qualifying projects, a field that includes The Addams Family, Scooby-Doo, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Wacky Races and a Miyazaki poster model. The review concludes in September, results typically follow some months after, and LEGO’s board usually approves only a small handful per round. Licensing is the other hurdle: an official set would need a deal between LEGO and Warner Bros. Discovery.
Here is the wrinkle of history worth knowing: ThunderCats and LEGO have unfinished business. When the 2011 series was cancelled, a planned LEGO ThunderCats line died with it, and that shelved work was reborn as LEGO Legends of Chima. So this is less a first date than a second chance. And the timing could hardly be better: the 10K milestone landed the same month Warner Bros. announced a new animated ThunderCats movie. If LEGO’s reviewers are reading the room, the momentum argument writes itself.
One more thing to watch: fan reports say a separate Cat’s Lair project also cleared its first support milestone on LEGO Ideas in June. This may be the start of a trend.
