A New Era on Third Earth: Greg Pak and David Cousens Relaunch ThunderCats This October

Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery are relaunching the ThunderCats comic this October with a brand-new #1, and they have handed the reins to writer Greg Pak and artist David Cousens. It is being pitched as a clean jumping-on point for anyone who has never picked up a ThunderCats book before.

A New Era on Third Earth

The ThunderCats, once the proud sovereigns of Thundera, are living a strange new life in exile on Third Earth. They no longer rule. They share the planet with the SilverHawks, the cat-hating Mu’Tants, and a host of societies nobody has mapped yet. Lion-O, Lord of the ThunderCats and still a youth in a man’s body, grows restless and hungry for bold action. The moment, though, calls for patience and diplomacy, and through the counsel of Tygra and the friendship of Calica (who first appeared in ThunderCats (2024) #2) he swallows his pride and prepares to lead through peace instead of conquest.

Who rides the meteor?

Enter the Feral King

A mysterious meteor streaks across the sky, casting a strange light over a gathering of Third Earth's tribes. Who is the Feral King? What does he want? And whom will he champion, or destroy? Dynamite says the future of the ThunderCats, Mumm-Ra's legions, and every people of Third Earth hangs on the answer. It is the kind of wild-card arrival the original cartoon loved, a stranger who can tip the whole board.

The Creative Team

Greg Pak is the writer, and if you know his runs on Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, X-Men, and Darth Vader, you know the register: huge action, big emotion, characters pushed to their limits.

"I've been hungry to dig into a story like this for years. Anything can happen on Third Earth, and if you've ever watched the original ThunderCats cartoons, you know that anything and everything did. Huge fun, massive action, big emotion, and searing relevance? You want this book!"

Greg Pak, writer

David Cousens draws it, and he arrives fluent in the world. Fans already know his electrifying ThunderCats covers and his interior work on the Cheetara: Worldbreaker special. He is also a genuine ThunderCats fan himself, active in the r/ThunderCats subreddit and a familiar, friendly face to the community, so this book is landing in the hands of someone who clearly loves the property.

Covers and the Blind-Bag Chase

ThunderCats #1 ships with the five main covers above by Cousens, Mark Spears, Daniele Cellini, Stephen Byrne, and Seth Damoose. Collectors can also chase rarer variants tucked inside mystery blind bags, which Dynamite teases may hold “a HUGE surprise and big first” it is keeping under wraps until release so as not to spoil it. Read that how you like. We will update this post the moment the reveal lands.
