Dynamite put a whole bonus comic inside the ThunderCats #1 blind bag, and said nothing until today
Every blind bag copy of ThunderCats #1 carries a complete second issue, ThunderCats: Lynxana #1 by Nate Cosby and Sebastian Piriz. It brings back a bounty hunter nobody has drawn since the 1980s, and the only way to read it is sealed inside a $19.99 bag.
There is a second comic inside ThunderCats #1, and Dynamite did not announce it until this morning. A premium mystery blind bag copy contains ThunderCats: Lynxana #1, a complete issue written by Nate Cosby and drawn by Sebastian Piriz, bagged with ThunderCats #1.
It is not a preview, a backup strip or a few pages of process art. Dynamite is describing it as its own first issue, with its own covers, and Piriz’s cover exists in black and white, without trade dress, and with a ThunderCats logo built for it [1]. Nick Barrucci put it as a thank-you to the people who have been buying the relaunch: “To reward fans who have supported us, we’ve done something we’ve never done before.”
Lynxana is an exiled ThunderCat who makes her living hunting other ThunderCats, and she was created by David Michelinie and Jim Mooney for issues 4 through 6 of Marvel’s ThunderCats run in the 1980s. She never turned up in the cartoon, and no later comic went back for her, so this is the first time she has been drawn for a new story in roughly forty years!
Cosby is not playing her as a straight action beat either. “We snuck a western into the ThunderCats universe,” he says. The setup is a distress call from a planet full of bounty hunters, answered by Bluegrass of the SilverHawks, who is shot down before he can work out what he has flown into. Cosby reckons what Bluegrass finds there “is gonna impact the ThunderCats comics franchise for years to come.”
Here is the catch: you cannot choose to buy this comic. The bonus issue only exists inside a sealed bag, so a reader who wants it pays the blind bag price and takes whatever variant cover the bag happens to hold. Comics Beat reports that a general release is hoped for later, but Dynamite has not announced one, and nothing in today’s statements promises it. For now the only way to read a forty-year-old character’s return is to buy the sealed bag and take whichever cover is in it.
Dynamite has a direct sequel coming in February 2027, creators not yet named, and from there she crosses into the main book and into ThunderCats: Cheetara, the companion series Saladin Ahmed is writing with Andrea Arcari. Cosby has been the editor and packager behind this era of Dynamite ThunderCats comics, and the schedule he is packaging now runs into 2027.
The release date is not settled. Comics Beat, Comicon and Overstreet Access all have the blind bag reaching shops tomorrow, Wednesday 4 November. But the solicitation block Bleeding Cool printed with its own story gives the Cover I premium mystery blind bag a release date of 18 November 2026 at $19.99 [2]. Those cannot both be right, and no retailer listing settles it: MyComicShop has the blind bag catalogued at $19.99 and not in stock, want list only. The main book is not in question: it came out on 21 October with the open-order covers, and MyComicShop has it in stock at $4.99 right now.
A reader who wants the Lynxana comic is best served at a shop counter on Wednesday morning, with a phone call first, because shops order a $19.99 bag thin [3]. The Pak and Cousens relaunch itself is already on shelves at $4.99.
This is the second Dynamite ThunderCats announcement in a fortnight that arrived with no warning, after ThunderCats ‘85 turned up as a second ongoing in January. The publisher is enjoying itself.
[1] Piriz’s name is printed with accents on the cover, as PIRIZ with an accented i. We spell it plainly here because the site’s build does not take non-ASCII characters.
[2] “THUNDERCATS (2026) #1 CVR I PREMIUM MYSTERY BLIND BAG VAR”, $19.99, release date 11/18/2026, read off the solicitation block at the foot of the Bleeding Cool story on 3 November 2026. The same story’s headline and body both say the bag is in shops tomorrow, so the conflict is inside one article rather than between two outlets.
[3] MyComicShop series page Thundercats (2026 Dynamite), TID 65378309, read 3 November 2026. Variants 1A through 1F plus 1P and 1Q show Add to cart at $4.99; variant 1I, the blind bag, shows “This item is not in stock at MyComicShop” with a want list option only.
