Super7 Revives the Astral Moat Monster: An All-New 14-Inch ThunderCats ULTIMATES! Revealed at SDCC 2026

Super7 just dropped one of the biggest surprises of its San Diego Comic-Con 2026 slate: an all-new ThunderCats ULTIMATES! Astral Moat Monster. The reveal went out on the Super7 socials with a full turnaround of the figure and the tagline the vintage collectors will recognize instantly, “Evil Guardian of the Mystical Prison.”

This is not a repaint or a re-run of an existing body. It is a brand-new tooling of one of the strangest, most beloved creatures in the entire ThunderCats toy canon, and it is built big.

What Super7 confirmed

The reveal card and the SDCC booth locked in the specs:

• 14 inches tall. This is a creature-scale piece, not a standard 7-inch figure. The Moat Monster towers.
• 7 points of articulation. Poseable, in the ULTIMATES tradition, so the jaws-open lunge you remember can actually be staged on the shelf.
• Vintage-inspired packaging. Super7 is leaning into the LJN heritage on the box, not just the sculpt.
• $195 MSRP. A creature-scale price for a creature-scale figure.

Shown as a display-only piece at Super7’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 booth, it arrives this fall. There is no pre-order live yet. Super7 is pointing fans to sign up at Super7.com to get the drop alert first.

In hand at Comic-Con

Super7 had the figure on its stand at San Diego Comic-Con, and it holds up in person: the glossy purple hide, the pearly fangs ringing that cavernous maw, the shaggy underbelly, and the red bat-wings plugged into the studded back, a direct nod to the vintage LJN toy.

Why this one matters

Here is the wrinkle that makes the Astral Moat Monster stand out. ThunderCats was a merchandising-first property: Ted Wolf created it, Rankin/Bass and Leisure Concepts developed it, and LJN built the toys from the show’s character designs. The usual direction ran one way, from screen to shelf. The Moat Monster is a noted case of the reverse. The production notes for the 1985 episode “The Astral Prison” have the script pointing the animators to a sketch from LJN, so the creature that guards the moat appears to have come off the toy company’s drawing board first and then into the cartoon.

This is not us calling it unique. In a property built to sell toys, toy input into the show was common. What is fun here is the direction: for this monster the toy side seems to have led, and 40 years later Super7 is making it the flagship collector piece.

The original LJN Astral Moat Monster shipped in 1986 as part of Series 2 (assortment number 3535), guardian of the Mystical Prison, with two detachable red wings that are famously the first thing to go missing on a loose sample.
