Super7 Revives the Astral Moat Monster: An All-New 14-Inch ThunderCats ULTIMATES! Revealed at SDCC 2026

Super7 just dropped one of the biggest surprises of its San Diego Comic-Con 2026 slate: an all-new ThunderCats ULTIMATES! Astral Moat Monster. The reveal went out on the Super7 socials with a full turnaround of the figure and the tagline the vintage collectors will recognize instantly, “Evil Guardian of the Mystical Prison.”

This is not a repaint or a re-run of an existing body. It is a brand-new tooling of one of the strangest, most beloved creatures in the entire ThunderCats toy canon, and it is built big.

What Super7 confirmed

The reveal card and the SDCC booth locked in the specs:

• 14 inches tall. This is a creature-scale piece, not a standard 7-inch figure. The Moat Monster towers.
• 7 points of articulation. Poseable, in the ULTIMATES tradition.
• Vintage-inspired packaging. Super7 is leaning into the LJN heritage on the box, not just the sculpt.
• $195 MSRP. A creature-scale price for a creature-scale figure.

Shown as a display-only piece at Super7’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 booth, it arrives this fall. There is no pre-order live yet. Super7 is pointing fans to sign up at Super7.com to get the drop alert first.

In hand at Comic-Con

Super7 had the figure on its stand at San Diego Comic-Con, and it holds up in person: the glossy purple hide, the pearly fangs ringing that cavernous maw, the shaggy underbelly, and the red bat-wings sweeping off the studded back.

Why this one matters

Here is what makes the Astral Moat Monster special, and it has nothing to do with the cartoon. Look at the size of it. This was one of the boldest swings LJN ever took with the ThunderCats license: not another hero or villain you could army-build, but a big, heavy, standalone creature committed to plastic, with a mold all its own and not a single part shared with anything else in the line.

On a 1980s toy shelf it really stood out. Bulky and weighty, with that huge open maw and a mold nothing else in the line could match, it sold the danger of Third Earth in a single hulking piece. Tooling a one-off like that, with no reused parts to soften the cost, was a real gamble, and it is exactly what Super7’s 14-inch revival is celebrating.

The original LJN Astral Moat Monster was part of Wave 1, LJN’s debut ThunderCats assortment: eight figures, three vehicles, the Sword of Omens, and this creature (assortment number 3535). Cast as the guardian of the Mystical Prison, it had poseable wings, arms, and feet, and its two detachable red wings are famously the first thing to go missing on a loose sample.
